It seems daily I'm in situations where I either need the gift of forgiveness or need to give it out. Either way, it can be a difficult present to unpack. With burning heart in hand and lump in throat, I've walked through these waters - watching words form on lips, hearing hearts mend, bringing restoration and peace. I've sensed the sigh that comes from the exhale of forgiveness - realizing the emotion tied to it is finally released. Similarly, I've also sensed the turmoil of holding on to unforgiveness for too long... realizing, due to a lack of remission, I was drinking the poision I was hoping the other party would perish from.
The wounds that He bore on the tree were for our healing - for our forgiveness - for our pardon. As we look into the eyes of Love and see what He offers without condition, we cannot then choose who deserves ours.
If this season is yours, press on. If your heart is needing it, seek it. If your body is breaking because you are the one drinking the poison, lay it down. Better is a treacherous season of working through restoration than even one day when the sun goes down on a heart hardened. It's worth it.
