On a recent trip to the hospital for a mysterious illness, the Lord spoke to my heart in a rather poignant way. I was being wheeled down a very cold, sterile, white hallway in a wheelchair powered by a very stoic nurse. Pain, fear, and the unknown loomed. As we turned the corner into another confusing maze-like hall, I sensed the Lord speaking...
"You know, this is why I came."
"To heal the sick - the sick of body. The sick of soul."
And there it was. In that stark hall filled with all uncertainty that the Lord met me sweetly. Tears fell - not because of the pain, but because I knew He was for me. He was with me and if I had been the only person in that hospital, or on the planet for that matter, He still would have come.
It's Christmastime and I can't help but focus on our Emmanuel - God with us - who came to us as a man, to be like man, in order to save us.
The sick of soul, the sick of heart, the sick of body - He came for us. He came to this cold, sterile, stoic planet filled with pain and the unknown and as He took His first breath of manger air, He breathed life back into the world that had been gasping for ages.
The plan of rescue began to unfold and when He saw us, through time and space, the confusing maze-like places in our hearts were of no mystery to Him. As Creator, He knew the way to our souls...to those sick places... and He could have left us broken, lost, and on our own, but he chose to take stripes so that we could be healed, body and soul.
And so, with laser focus, it began in that hospital corridor. That tiny hand reached out of the manger and into my heart. An unwavering, never giving up determination to liberate me before I was even born...and my healing began... over 2000 years ago.
The baby King - our Healer - Emmanuel.
You are why He came. You. Me. He is for us all.
